JOB SUMMARY:
The Recreation Assistant is responsible for assisting the Recreation Coordinator in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreational programs on a daily basis. Assists with planning, implementing and evaluating recreation programs for residents of Berwick Royal Oak. Helps arrange recreation programs by contacting community members to provide entertainment, educational and social opportunities for residents, may also be liaison with community groups. Encourages resident participation by initiating, motivating, and encouraging resident, family and staff input. Assists Recreation Manager with interviews of new residents to determine social history and recreational interests and needs. Provides input into monthly recreation schedule and ensures written program sheets are available. Provides residents with announcements of upcoming and ongoing events. Implements ongoing programs by setting up room and equipment and supplies, conducting the recreation program as indicated, and by cleaning up after the event.
HOURS OF WORK:
Must be flexible and available to work days, evenings and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Must be bondable
-Graduate from diploma program in recreation programming
-Class 4 Drivers License
-Two years experience working with seniors and/or with providing recreation or leisure programs.
-Tact, sound judgment, confidentiality and an ability to work with staff as a team are essential.
-A self-motivator with good communication, facilitation and problem solving skills, and an ability to work well with seniors and the public.
-Valid Emergency Level 1 First Aid certificate
